CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Dolphins put on quite the show for some lucky Folly Beach visitors this week.

Video submitted through News 2’s ‘Report It’ feature captured the very energetic dolphins who came out to play on Monday, showing them jumping feet out of the water for several minutes as onlookers enjoyed the show.

We’re told it happened at the end of Folly Beach near the Morris Island lighthouse.

Experts say dolphins jump out of the water for several reasons: they could be playing or communicating, as dolphins are extremely social, or they could be trying to gain speed, since traveling through the air is faster than traveling through water.

They could also be hunting or trying to assert dominance.

Should you see dolphins in the water, keep a safe distance and never feed or attempt
