County residents who want to learn more about the Sheriff’s Office, including those considering a future in law enforcement, are encouraged to apply for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office Community Academy by the Sept. 19 deadline.
The academy kicks off on Thursday, Oct. 2, and offers participants the opportunity to explore a wide range of topics including the history of law enforcement, criminal law, patrol tactics and de-escalation communication.
Attendees will also experience hands-on learning in areas such as firearms instruction and forensic evidence collection.
Classes will be held at different locations throughout the county every Thursday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., through Dec. 4. Participants are required to attend all training sessions.
