Prince Harry has announced a $1.5 million donation to a British children's charity during a visit in England in a rare move for a royal.
The Duke of Sussex cut the check for £1.1 million to Children in Need from his personal funds, not as a grant from his Archewell Foundation.
The money will go primarily to organizations in Nottingham "that create opportunities, nurture potential and help young people build brighter futures," according to a news release.
Why It Matters
Financial donations from royals are not unheard of, but their efforts to do good predominantly focus on turning up in support rather than giving cash.
In that respect, Harry's announcement of a large, specific monetary donation has the potential to be awkward for the royals.
