A major Richardson Highway overpass project at 12 Mile Village near North Pole is expected to wrap up before winter, according to the Alaska Department of Transportation.
In a Friday update, DOT said its contractor will begin paving operations for the project “in the coming weeks.” Its current estimate puts completion before the end of October.
The contractor graded the Keeny detour to the Richardson Highway, installed coping, formed the outer walls of the bridge barrier, added the median and wrapped up final touches for the underpass lighting.
The most recent efforts also included pouring the bridge barrier and repairing guardrails.
According to DOT, once paving starts later this month, traffic patterns will shift.
