A family pet dog was killed following a boat explosion that took place over the weekend at a St. Clair Shores marina, police said Monday.

The dog was with two individuals who had just purchased fuel at the gas dock of Emerald City Harbor on Jefferson Avenue, north of Nine Mile Road, on about 12:50 p.m. Saturday when the vessel exploded, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Marine Division.

Investigators said the boat captain and passenger endured only minor injuries in the blast.

“The canine was transported to an emergency veterinary hospital,” marine division deputies said in a news release. “Sadly, the canine succumbed to its injuries.”
