Emergency crews were at the historic Doherty Hotel in downtown Clare Monday morning after an SUV crashed through the building.

A driver crashed through the brick exterior of the building and the vehicle came to rest partially inside the building.

Described as a man in his 60s, the driver was taken to a hospital and reported to be in stable condition.

No one else was injured.

Built in 1924 at the intersection of US-10 and US-127, The Doherty is a landmark in downtown Clare and among the state’s most historic continually-operating motels.
