A former Countdown champion accused of stabbing a fellow contestant at a meet-up in Blackpool has been declared unfit to stand trial.

Appearing in court today, John Cowen, 31, appeared on video link from Guild Lodge where he is being treated for psychosis and delusions.

After hearing from two psychiatrists, Judge Guy Mathieson ruled Cowen is not fit to stand trial or enter a plea to the charge of section 18 wounding and possession of a bladed article, LancsLive reports .

It comes as Cowen is accused of attacking Thomas Carey at a meet-up for former Countdown players in Blackpool on September 14 last year.
