WRIGHT COUNTY, Iowa -- One person was killed, and two others were injured on Sunday when their car struck a utility pole and crashed into a cornfield.

At around 7:19 p.m. a Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling southbound on R-38, just south of Clarion. According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, the passenger side of the vehicle dropped off the side of the road for an unknown reason and the driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to hit a utility pole and crash in a cornfield. When the car came to rest it then caught fire.

The crash report states that none of the three occupants were wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the vehicle. The driver and one of the passengers were injured, but the extent of their injuries has not been released. The second passenger, identified as 36-year-old
