ST. LOUIS COUNTY — Police on Tuesday said they are investigating human remains found in the Columbia Bottom Conservation Area.

Someone found the remains Monday morning in the 800 block of Strodtman Road and called police just before noon, St. Louis County police said.

The area is near the River's Edge trailhead.

On Tuesday, police said an identification or cause of death had not yet been determined.

The discovery comes about two weeks after 41-year-old Steven Reed was reported missing by his family. Police said they found his vehicle abandoned at the Columbia Bottom Conservation Area.

Reed's family reported he was last heard from on the evening of Aug. 19, police said in a Facebook post.
