INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis metro police have arrested a man for his alleged involvement in an assault that left another man in critical condition on Monday.

According to a news release, aggravated assault detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were patrolling near E. 16th Street and N. Meridian Street when they observed 51-year-old Randell Futrell allegedly punching another adult male who was already on the ground.

The detectives approached Futrell to break up the fight before a chase ensued. Futrell was stopped and placed under arrest a short time later, IMPD said.

IMPD confirmed the victim of the assault suffered from "visible" injuries and was also believed to have sustained unknown internal injuries. The victim was then transported to an area hospital in c
