CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — A 38-year-old Shinnston sex offender accused of new sex crimes — against a pre-k-age child and a pre-teen adolescent — entered Alford pleas to two counts Tuesday in Harrison County Circuit Court.
Chief Circuit Judge Christopher J. McCarthy accepted the pleas from Kevin Wayne Hammond and set sentencing at 9 a.m. Nov. 5.
As part of the plea agreement, Assistant Prosecutor Gina Renzelli, for Prosecutor Rachel Romano, and Harrison County lawyer Jonathan Fittro, for Hammond, will join in recommending Hammond serve the maximum 15 to 50 years in prison and pay a mandatory $1,000 fine.
The court ordered Probation Officer Matthew Chase to conduct a presentence investigation and arrange a sex-offender risk evaluation even though Fittro didn't request one.
