DERRY, N.H. —

A student who alleges she was sexually assaulted by a former security guard at Pinkerton Academy has filed a lawsuit against him and the school.

The student, who is referred to as Jane Doe in the lawsuit, accuses the security guard of using his position of authority to sexually assault her. She also claims that Pinkerton Academy failed to provide a safe environment for its students.

Christopher Cowell, the former security guard, has been indicted on charges that include aggravated felonious sexual assault and providing alcohol to minors. Crowell was fired, and the school community was alerted about the issue in an email early last month.
