HUDSON, N.H. —

Jamestown Canyon virus has been detected in two batches of mosquitoes in Hudson, health officials said Tuesday.

The mosquitoes were collected on Aug. 20 near Speare Road and Sir Isaac Way.

This is the first time JCV has been detected in Hudson this year, but the virus has been found in other New Hampshire communities in recent months.

The virus can be passed to humans and can cause serious neurological issues, such as meningitis and encephalitis.

Health officials said people in the area should limit activity after dusk, wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants, and use insect repellent with DEET to protect themselves.
