Railroad maintenance workers closed neighboring streets at crossings west of Detroit Avenue around noon Tuesday for an undisclosed amount of time.

The crew then dug narrow trenches across both Sylvania Avenue and Phillips Avenue into which replacement rail was to be unloaded for future installation on the track through the crossings.

Both Phillips and Sylvania are closed west of Canada Southern Avenue. No detour route was posted, but the closest alternative is Berdan Avenue and Haverhill Drive between Detroit and Phillips, then Phillips to reach Sylvania.

The two streets will close again when a track crew arrives to install the replacement rail.
