STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Five-time defending Staten Island CHSAA champion St. Joseph Hill opened the league season with a 4-1 victory over Notre Dame Academy Monday at the Silver Lake tennis courts.
In the closest match of the day, it was NDA’s Rachel Lee coming back from a 1-6 deficit to win in a third-set tiebreaker, 10-5, verse Hill’s Cassandra Trinidad.
Trinidad took a 2-0 lead in the breaker before Lee swept the next five points. Trinidad was able to cut the deficit to 5-6 with a put away volley but Lee swept the last four points for the match.
