SARASOTA, Fla. ( WWSB ) – A Sarasota man has been convicted and sentenced to eight consecutive life terms for the rape of two women in 2022.
Florida State Attorney Ed Brodsky said Cory Garries was convicted Sept. 8 in Sarasota County Circuit Court of five counts of sexual battery with a deadly weapon, two counts of kidnapping with a weapon, burglary with assault or battery, and aggravated assault.
Court records show that in October 2022, Garries attacked and raped two victims on the same night after recently serving a 17-year federal sentence for sexual abuse. Prosecutors said he committed repeated acts of sexual assault, kidnapping, and violence while armed with a knife.
