LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - A Lansing man has been sentenced to 83 months, almost seven years, in federal prison for the possession and illegal transfer of machine guns, as well as the possession of a short-barreled rifle.

Wolf Harper, 37, sold a short-barreled rifle equipped with a silencer and 74 machine gun conversion devices, commonly known as “auto sears,” to an undercover federal agent, police say.

Conversion devices are small but “highly dangerous” components that allow semi-automatic firearms to function similarly to fully automatic weapons.

When installed, they enable a gun to fire up to 1,000 rounds per minute, allowing an entire magazine to be emptied with a single pull of the trigger. Under federal law, each conversion device is classified as a machine gun.
