WATERBURY, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - The Jamestown Canyon virus, a mosquito-borne disease, has been reported in a human in Vermont for the first time, say officials from the Vermont Department of Health.
The Jamestown Canyon virus, first identified in Jamestown, Colo. in 1961, is found throughout the United States. The state began testing for it specifically this year, and reported mosquitoes with the virus back in July.
According to health officials, the positive test was reported Monday in a person from Windsor County, who will remain anonymous to protect their privacy.
Jamestown Canyon virus is more common in the summer, and often causes flu-like symptoms. Among people who get sick, about half are hospitalized, according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC). However, the CDC says that d
