The Pittsburgh Steelers are signing safety Jabrill Peppers, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. This move comes after safety DeShon Elliott suffered a knee injury against the New York Jets and did not return.

Peppers was surprisingly released by the New England Patriots just one year into a three-year deal after the preseason. A leader in the secondary for the team, head coach Mike Vrabel wanted a shakeup. Now, Peppers joins the Steelers and could start right away if necessary.

Peppers was the first-round pick for the Cleveland Browns in the 2017 NFL Draft, but only spent two seasons with the team being before moved to the New York Giants. After three seasons with the Giants, he spent the last three years with the Patriots.
