Due to water damage and other structural deficiencies, the affordable housing project at 101 McNaughton Ave. W. may need more than $9 million in additional funding, subject to surety coverage, Chatham-Kent council heard Monday.

Total costs to complete the modular 27-unit project are estimated at $19.2 million, stated a staff report, with completion and occupancy expected next year.

Council passed the following recommendations:

That a contract amendment in the amount of $4.4 million including contingency and HST for Jayden Construction be approved.

Additional expenditures up to $4.8 million, that are subject to repayment from the surety, be authorized to complete the build.

Administration be directed to pursue recovery of any funds available to reduce the funding required to complete t
