After weeks of debate, the Colorado Springs City Council has finalized a change in the job requirements for Colorado Springs' recently-hired city auditor.
The City Council voted 6-3 Tuesday to replace the stipulation that City Auditor Natalie Lovell receive a Certificate in Public Accounting in the next two years with a rule that she become a certified internal auditor. Lovell has to get the certificate by March 2027, which is two years after she was hired.
The change was opposed by councilmembers Dave Donelson, Roland Rainey and Brandy Willaims.
Lovell and the city's Human Resources Department had requested the change over the summer, shortly after Lovell was unanimously appointed by the City Council. Staff argued that Colorado Springs' current requirement that the city auditor hold a
