GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. -- Missouri is working to make Interstate 70 safer and less congested for drivers. But before that can happen, drivers will be seeing a lot of construction zones.

There will be impacts to drivers' commutes for quite some time while crews work on a portion of the project, but leaders say the improvements are needed and will be worth it.

The latest phase of the Improve I-70 Kansas City project is adding a third lane from Blue Springs to Odessa in both the eastbound and westbound lanes for 25 miles.

Fourteen bridges will be replaced, along with the pavement that was poured back in the early 1960's.
