SALT LAKE CITY — The 151st Wing of the Utah Air National Guard assisted the Salt Lake City Police Department on Tuesday after an artillery shell was found by an excavator just south of Interstate 80 near 7200 West.
The Utah Air National Guard’s Explosive Ordnance Division determined there was nothing to cause the artillery shell to detonate. An Air National Guard spokesman said that the shell appeared to be filled with concrete.
The shell was removed and taken to Camp Williams for further analysis.
According to Master Sgt. Nicholas Perez, nobody working the scene was ever in danger.
