EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Evansville city leaders and department heads are currently meeting to discuss the city’s budget for 2026.

Earlier Tuesday, Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry gave her 2026 budget overview.

Next year, she plans to use the general city fund to focus on, what she calls, the “basics,” like road improvements, safety, and affordable housing

The general fund budget is a 1.6% increase from last year.

Mayor Terry said she is trying to fill the funding gap caused by the state’s Senate Bill 1, that does give homeowners relief on their property taxes, but has caused a large reduction in revenue for the city.

Because of SB1, she tells us cities across the state are struggling, Evansville specifically is projected to lose $4.1 million dollars from their general fund.
