The Bureau of Meteorology has warned of heavy rain and possible flash flooding hitting the Shoalhaven today (Wednesday, September 10) and tomorrow.

It said a complex low was forecast to move over southeastern NSW and then offshore around Jervis Bay during today and Thursday morning, leading to heavy showers and rain.

Heavy rainfall which might lead to flash flooding is forecast from Wednesday afternoon for parts of the Illawarra, northern South Coast and Southern Tablelands.

Six-hourly rainfall totals between 60mm and 100mm are possible, with 24-hour totals up to 140mm.

Rainfall is expected to contract to the coast overnight Wednesday and ease by Thursday morning.
