MANDAN, ND (KXNET) — City leaders in Mandan have OK'd a new policy for working moms and dads.

This month, the city commission approved a plan that allows moms and dads to bring an infant to the office.

City leaders brought the idea forward because they say they wanted to create a family-friendly work environment, improve employee retention and morale, and offer flexibility during the early months when parents are bonding with a newborn.

"Recognize that we understand the difficulty there and that we want to support them in any way we can," Mandan City Human Resources Director Amy Berger said.

"I think one thing I really enjoy is I bring my son to the office and we have lunch dates all the time, and nobody ever says, 'Hey, we can't have a kid in here. There's meetings going on,'" Mandan
