JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Jefferson County leaders could soon ban swimming at Rockford Park.

Over the last 10 years, there have been dozens of emergency calls with at least seven drownings.

This, despite signs telling locals to stay out of the water.

Rockford Park lies next to the Big River just off Highway 30 near Byrnes Mill.

On Monday night, the Jefferson County Council passed the first step of a proposal to ban swimming at the park.
