SIBLEY, Iowa (KTIV) - Voters in the Sibley-Ocheyedan school district were asked to approve a tax measure during a special election on Tuesday, Sept. 9.

Residents voted against of the tax measure 398 to 112, according to the unofficial results sent to KTIV. It required a simple majority to pass.

If the measure had passed, the school board would have been allowed, for the next 10 years, to collect up to $1.34 for every $1,000 of assessed property value. They would have also been able to add an income surtax of up to 20% of a resident’s state income tax.

All funds raised would only be used for things like school buildings, repairs, and equipment, as allowed by Iowa law.
