NORTH CHARLESTON — A recently filed lawsuit aims to hold El Patio Caribbean Cuisine and Lounge and its landlords liable for a shooting in late March that left a man wounded.
Not long after that shooting, the scandal-plagued establishment ceased operations, business records show, ending a tumultuous two years that saw two people involved with the bar indicted by the FBI .
On March 29, Hakeem Wittrell was shot at El Patio by an unknown gunman, the lawsuit states. According to a police report from that night, officers responded to the bar around 7:45 p.m.
Wittrell told officers he was walking through the door of the business when he was shot. The report said he had one gunshot wound. Investigators determined the gunshot came from the bar’s patio. No arrest has been made in the case.
