After 40 years in operation, red light cameras continue to catch more people than ever despite costly fines and the risk offending drivers pose to lives.
The 247 red light cameras at high-risk intersections across NSW continue to catch thousands of offenders.
"If that crash happens at 70km/h, you'll only have a 20 per cent chance you'll survive that crash," Centre for Road Safety chief Bernard Carlon said.
"If it happens at 50km/h, there's a 90 per cent chance you'll survive that crash.
"Just think about the consequences of tragically taking someone's life and slow down, obey the signals, stop the red light running."
Every year on NSW roads, more than 100 people are seriously injured, with three deaths last year.
Statistics show that Sydney's most notorious intersection is Victori
