GRAND FORKS — Altru Health System has been nationally recognized for providing excellent care to stroke and heart attack patients.

Last month, the Grand Forks-based hospital received the American Heart Association's Get with the Guidelines: Stroke Gold Plus award for its commitment to treating stroke patients.

Get with the Guidelines: Stroke is an in-hospital program for improving stroke care by promoting consistent adherence to guidelines, according to a release from Altru Health System. The award recognizes institutions that give the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines, ultimately leading to more lives saved and reduced disability, the release said.
