Nuneaton Asda store was 'evacuated' as customers were urged to 'leave shopping'. A shopper, who did not want to be identified, said it took place at the supermarket last night (September 9).

"We were all told to leave our shopping and go outside," the shopper said. "They (the staff) kept saying 'it wasn't a drill'."

A short while later shoppers were allowed back into the store with many of them wondering what had happened. CoventryLive contacted Asda about the incident.

A spokesperson said that there was no incident. It was a planned fire drill to test the system. The Nuneaton Asda store sits on the mini retail park.

Movement is set to be made at what was the old Carpetright nearby. A new 24 hour gym has been given the go-ahead to take over the empty unit.
