LAKE LURE, NC (LOOTPRESS) — Nearly a year after Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina, the Town of Lake Lure has announced a timeline for the lake’s restoration and reopening.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), working under FEMA’s direction with support from AshBritt Environmental and local contractors, has been leading recovery efforts since October 2024. Crews have worked seven days a week for almost a year to repair the lake basin and shoreline.
The USACE now expects to complete its work by Oct. 31, 2025, a milestone that will allow the next phase of recovery to begin — refilling the lake and preparing for public access.
