Jamie Vardy was won over by Cremonese’s underdog tale as the Leicester City icon bids to write a new chapter in his famous story.

Vardy was formally introduced by the Italian side on Wednesday afternoon as he begins a new era in his career, with a curtain drawn on his 13 seasons at the King Power Stadium in the summer.

Newly-promoted Cremonese have kicked off the Serie A season with back-to-back victories, including a famous win over AC Milan at the San Siro, and there have been inevitable comparisons to City’s unlikely title triumph.

But Vardy insists, just like it was under Claudio Ranieri at City, that the focus is on survival first and foremost, no matter where in the table they may sit.
