BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Closing arguments have resumed in the trial of Sergio Venegas, a convicted rapist who’s accused of attacking a woman within a year of his release from prison.

Venegas, 62, will be sent back to prison for the rest of his life if found guilty of the May 2, 2022, attack on Ming Avenue. He's accused of grabbing a woman who was walking by herself, dragging her behind bushes and attempting to sexually assault her at knifepoint.
She escaped, and Venegas was arrested soon after.
He’s charged with kidnapping to commit robbery or rape, assault with intent to commit a sex act, robbery and resisting arrest, among other crimes.
