Police have made two arrests for a March home invasion in rural Wainfleet – a crime that led to the discovery of a large illegal cannabis-growing operation.

On March 14, Niagara Regional Police were called to a home near Highway 3 and Shafley Road South, which is close to the border of Haldimand County.

Police said a number of individuals believed to be carrying firearms forced their way inside the home. The intruders then searched both the interior and exterior of the property before leaving.

Police said nothing of significant value was reported missing.

One of the residents called police after the intruders left, the NRP said.

Police said during their investigation officers found a significant number of cannabis plants growing on the property and contacted the Provincial Joint Force
