BROWNING, Mont. – The Blackfeet Tribal Business Council, along with the Blackfeet Environmental Office, have decided to demolish what elders said was one of the oldest buildings in Browning.

The building is called the Free School Building.

Blackfeet Nation announced this through an official Facebook post and said the decision was made due to environmental hazards caused by bird droppings at the building.

The bird droppings were causing health hazards and environmental concerns due to the pollutants and pathogens they were spreading.

“The demolition project is being conducted to safeguard public health and environmental quality by addressing these hazards in a safe and responsible manner,” wrote the Blackfeet Nation/Blackfeet Tribal Business Council.
