Former longtime Gillette resident, Dorothy Maxine Miles, 97, of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away Wednesday evening, July 30, 2025, at her residence.

Dorothy was born on Feb. 12, 1928, in Lamar, Nebraska. She was one of eight children of Hiram and Rose Sweeney.

Dorothy was an accountant for the family’s Texaco stations and a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, making quilt tops, canning beets, and bread and butter pickles.

She is survived by her son, David (Lisa) Miles; and grandson, Aaron Miles of Greensboro, North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Wilburn (Bill) Miles; and her youngest son, Steven; both of whom passed away in 2005.
