KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A man from Kansas City, Kansas has been indicted by a federal grand jury on firearms and drug trafficking charges, the United States Department of Justice says.

According to the DOJ, the Kansas City Police Department tried to stop 35-year-old Damian Mays on September 2 when he fled in a Lexus sedan and then on foot. When the police caught up to him, they also found a backpack he had thrown.

That backpack held distribution amounts of fentanyl, cocaine and marijuana. In the Lexus Mays was driving, police found two firearms, according to the DOJ.

Additionally, while Mays was handcuffed, waiting to be taken to jail, he escaped and fled on foot before getting into a Buick SUV, in which he would then cause a wreck on Interstate 70. However, Mays was taken back into custody
