CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte City Councilmember Malcolm Graham is calling for sweeping public safety enhancements across the city following the deadly stabbing of 23-year-old Iryna Zarustka on the LYNX Blue Line earlier this month.

“The incident is a stark reminder that public safety must remain at the forefront of our city’s priorities,” Graham said during a press conference on Tuesday.

Graham said the city cannot afford to focus solely on transit safety, urging leaders to take a broader approach that includes strengthening the court system, addressing root causes of crime, and improving infrastructure such as lighting and cameras.
