FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Katie Garner decided she had had her last alcoholic beverage on June 22, 2024.

Since then, the Fort Wayne native has amassed over 400,000 followers on TikTok, sharing her sobriety journey from the early days of recovery to now.

“I quit 10 days before my son turned five,” said Garner. “I had been consciously thinking about it for a while, and I kept thinking to myself that my earliest childhood memories are at five.”

“I don’t want him to remember me like this. I don’t want to keep putting him through this. I want him to have a mom that’s there.”

Garner says the transition from addiction to sobriety has involved more than stopping the substance.
