BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) - West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey announced plans to triple the state's energy output through an ambitious new initiative.
The 50 by 50 plan was designed to push West Virginia from a 15-gigawatt energy baseload to 50 gigawatts by the year 2050.
He said the boost could jumpstart the economy and create job opportunities throughout the state.
"It's going to be good for all of West Virginia. It's ambitious, but we have to be," said Governor Morrisey. "We're competing with China on the world stage for information technology supremacy, and West Virginia needs to help lead the way to be a big force to make sure that America is meeting the energy demands of tomorrow."
