NORFOLK, Va. — The International Longshoremen's Association (ILA), a nationwide labor union representing dockworkers across the country, is suing the Port of Virginia and its CEO, Stephen Edwards, for what it claims to be a "violation" of a contract that took months to certify after a multi-day nationwide strike.
The lawsuit alleges that the Virginia Port Authority (VPA) and a single-member LLC, Virginia International Terminals (VIT), of which the port authority is the sole member, have been specifically "directed" by Edwards to forego some of the stipulations in the contract between the labor union and the ports they represent.
