Police have issued an urgent warning over a 'salt and ice challenge' craze. West Midlands Police has dubbed the online trend, which first appeared several years ago and has emerged again, 'dangerous'.

It encourages young people to put salt on their skin and press ice on top for as long as possible. This causes cold burns, similar to frostbite.

The force has issued warnings to both young people and their parents and carers about the 'dangerous' impact of the challenge. In a community post, the force has said that it can lead to second- or third-degree burns.
