WETHERSFIELD, CT (WFSB) - Twenty-four years after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, communities across the state took time to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost.

Out of those lives, 161 victims had ties to the state.

Gov. Ned Lamont ordered all U.S. and state flags to be flown at half-staff for Thursday in honor of the victims.

In Wethersfield, the Pitkin Community Center is home to the 9/11 Sports Memorial Center. The center is a tribute to three local residents, including Richard M. Keane, who were killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center.

The memorial includes a gym, fitness room, and community space dedicated to their memory.

Connecticut’s official state memorial is located at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, where loved ones annually gather to reflect and remember.
