MID-HUDSON – Elected officials from throughout the Hudson Valley condemned the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk on Tuesday as political violence and offered condolences to his family.

Kirk, a close ally of President Donald Trump, was shot and killed while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University. He leaves behind a wife and two children.

“I am shocked and heartbroken by the assassination of Charlie Kirk,” Congressman Mike Lawler (R-NY-17) said. “Charlie dedicated his life to engaging young Americans and fostering open and honest dialogue—the very values our country was built on—especially with those who disagreed with him. Political violence has no place in America. We must stand united against hate and ensure justice is served.”
