U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik will chair a bipartisan House select committee to review the 9/11 Commission Report to evaluate progress made on intelligence-related commendations made in that assessment, the Republican New York congresswoman said Thursday, the 24th anniversary of the attacks.
The review will take place during the next year as the country nears the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The panel will review the report by holding events, hearings and briefings, both open to the public and closed, to identify any gaps or areas of improvement and put forward new recommendations to remedy them.
The 9/11 Commission Report was published in 2004 and found significant intelligence failures that led to the deadliest terrorist attack in history.
