COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Franklin County grand jury declined to bring forth charges against five police officers who shot and killed a man charging at them with a make-shift knife last year.

Noel Hernandez , 35, was fatally shot on June 10, 2024, after the Columbus Division of Police responded to multiple calls of a man charging at people and vehicles with a knife on the city’s southwest side.

According to Police Chief Elaine Bryant, police received 911 calls of a man banging on vehicles and threatening people with a knife in the area of Georgesville and Clime roads.

Arriving officers found Hernandez with his vehicle stopped in the middle of the road. The officers told him to put his hands up in English and Spanish, but he got into his car and drove away.
