GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Following an order from President Donald Trump, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has ordered all flags to be lowered to half-staff to remember conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed Wednesday.

Gov. Whitmer had already ordered flags to half-staff to recognize Patriot Day , which honors the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

She announced Wednesday that flags would be lowered immediately and remain lowered through Sunday, Sept. 14, in accordance with Trump's order.

Kirk was shot and killed Wednesday while hosting an event at Utah Valley University. Police have questioned two people, but the suspect is still at large.
