PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - A plan to redevelop Peoria’s Riverfront Park, which took six years to come together, now needs some tweaking.
City council members signed a letter of intent with the Hengst Foundation to build a 5,000-seat amphitheater along Peoria’s riverfront in honor of foundation founder Jim Hengst’s late wife, Dee.
However, in 2023, the city council adopted a $26 million master redevelopment plan for Riverfront Park.
City Manager Patrick Urich said the decision to move forward with the amphitheater proposal wasn’t made without considering how the original plan would be affected.
“We started to look at that, and actually, we don’t think it’s going to change it all that much,” said Urich. “We had plans for a bandshell in Festival Park as part of the 2023 Riverfront plan
